TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) scored 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting and classmate Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) added 17 points as Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team fell 94-79 in an exhibition game at Toledo.
The Panthers hung close in the first half, leading 12-8 on a three-pointer by sophomore Michael Simon (Hilliard, Ohio). The Panthers stayed on top at 21-20 with nine minutes left on a triple by Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) and were in front 31-30 on a jump shot by Waugh with five minutes to go in the period.
Toledo went on an 8-2 run, though, and took a 45-41 lead into the half.
ODU took a 50-47 lead early in the half on a three-point play by Waugh, but the Rockets answered with a 13-2 run and pulled away in the final 10 minutes.
ODU shot 44.6 percent from the field and made two more field goals than Toledo. However, Toledo went 32-of-47 at the free throw, compared to 13-of-17 for the Panthers, and hit 8-of-14 from behind the arc.
Ohio Dominican starts the regular season at 4 p.m. Saturday at Johnson C. Smith.
