COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will begin the 2016-17 season this Saturday with an exhibition game against Toledo at 2:30 p.m. at Savage Arena.
Following its exhibition contest with Toledo, the Panthers will look forward to their first regular season contest at Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, November 12.

The Panthers are looking to build off a 2015-16 campaign in which they finished 11-17 (8-14 GLIAC), marking the most wins by an ODU men's basketball team since the 2008-09 season and the most wins since the program moved to NCAA Division II in 2010-11.
ODU was picked to finish sixth in the GLIAC south division in 2016-17 in a preseason poll conducted by the conference's coaches.
Averaging 76.8 points per game a season ago, Ohio Dominican ranked seventh in the GLIAC in scoring and held a distinct home court advantage, ending the year with an 8-4 record at Alumni Hall on 85.5 points per game.
Junior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) is the top returner for Ohio Dominican, coming off a season in which he averaged 13.1 points per game on 38 percent shooting from three-point range. Williams shot 85.5 percent from the free throw line in 2015-16, the second-highest free-throw shooting percentage in a season in the history of Ohio Dominican men's basketball.
Also returning is junior Mike DeLeon (Powell, Ohio), who ranked fourth on the team in scoring (8.8 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.3 ppg) a year ago. Junior Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, Ohio) returns after averaging 6.1 points per game in 27 starts last season, and junior Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) returns after leading the squad in assists per game (3.6) in 2015-16.
The Rockets were picked to finish fourth in the MAC West in a preseason poll conducted by the league's head coaches and return three starters from a squad that finished fifth in the MAC West last season with a record of 17-15 (8-10 MAC). Toledo returns senior guard Jonathan Williams, who is a preseason All-MAC selection and averaged 17.6 points per game a year ago while also leading the team in three-point field goals made (70) on 37.6 percent shooting from behind the arc.
Senior Zach Garber is Toledo's leading returning rebounder, averaging 4.8 rebounds per game in 2015-16. Sophomore guard Jaelen Sanford returns after averaging 8.2 points per game and hitting on 35 percent of his three-point field goal attempts, while also averaging 1.8 assists per game a season ago.
Saturday's exhibition game marks Ohio Dominican's first matchup with Toledo in program history. ODU has faced Division I programs in exhibition action in each of the last two seasons, and will also travel to Wright State to take on the Raiders in exhibition play on Monday, November 21.
Toledo will host ODU on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Savage Arena. The game will be aired on ESPN3.
