COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team will be back on the road this week to close out regular season play against GLIAC North schools as they travel to Lake Superior State and Northwood.
The Panthers are coming off a 1-1 weekend against two of the three universities located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. ODU fell behind early to MTU before closing the deficit to as little as five points, but they were unable to get any closer. The Black and Gold responded though on Sunday, defeating NMU by a final score of 73-68.
Junior Trent Weaver (Columbus, OH) was named GLIAC South Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. During the two week stretch Weaver is averaging 14.8 points and 11 rebounds per contest, including two double-double performances. The post player for ODU is leading the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 14.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He ranks inside the top 10 in the GLIAC in both categories.
Freshman Ronnie Williams (Columbus, OH) has had a solid past two weeks scoring a career high 19 points at Bluefield State. Williams, who has started in the past two games, then followed that performance up with 16 points against MTU and then set a career high in assists with six against NMU.
Junior Mark Minch (West Chester, OH) is coming off his best shooting performance of the season against NMU, scoring 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Minch also dished out a career high seven assists against the Wildcats.
Another junior in Chad Nelson (Columbus, OH) is averaging 14 points per game in the past two matches and has hit 5-of-10 three pointers. Nelson also ranks 15th in the GLIAC in free throw percentage at 81.6 percent.
The Panthers will face LSSU at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 8. ODU and NU will then square off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10.
