COLUMBUS, Ohio – Every Ohio Dominican men's basketball player scored in the season finale, but it wasn't enough, as the Panthers fell short, 90-78 Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
Seniors Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) and John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) scored the first five points for the Panthers to take a 5-4 lead early in the first half. Tiffin's Cody Dennison hit a jumper at the 17:02 mark to go ahead 6-5, but a free throw by freshman Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) knotted the score at 6-6.
The Dragons went on an 8-0 run, beginning at the 16:05 mark, which gave them a 14-6 lead but the Panthers cut the margin back to 20-14, after a made basket by junior Ledarius Stennis (Moss Point, MS).
However, Tiffin put together another burst, going on a 13-2 run, which gave the Dragon's a 33-16 lead with 7:02 left to play. The Panthers cut the lead to 11, 37-26, with 1:41 left in the frame after a layup by Jones. The Dragons scored the next seven points to go up by 18, 44-26, but a three-pointer by sophomore Brock Ammons (Findlay, Ohio) at the buzzer cut the lead back to 15, 44-29 heading into half.
ODU cut the lead to 13, 46-33, in the opening minutes of the second half after Jones hit a jumper from the right wing. However, the Dragons responded with an 18-7 run to go up 64-40 with 13:35 left to play.
From there, it was all Tiffin basketball, as they extended their lead by as much as 29, 81-52. Down by 20, 89-69 with 2:34 left on the game clock, the Panthers made a late 9-1 push, but it wasn't enough as the Dragons walked away with the 90-78 victory.
Trew finished his final season as Panther with a season-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds and two blocks. Jones finished with 14 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals. Freshman Trent Weaver (Columbus, Ohio) scored 13 points while pulling down four rebounds while Ammons and Stennis added seven and six points respectively.
