COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team will conclude its season this Saturday as the Panthers welcome Tiffin to Alumni Hall for a 1 p.m. tip-off. Senior Day will also be observed in honor of Morgan Jones and John Trew, who will be recognized prior to tip-off.
About the Panthers
ODU enters Saturday's game after a big 88-77 victory over visiting Notre Dame (Ohio) Wednesday evening in Alumni Hall. The Panthers had their best shooting performance of the season and five players were in double digits.
The Panthers shot 62.5 percent from the field on 30-of-48 including an impressive 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from behind the three-point line.
Leading the five players in double digits was freshman Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio), who scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Freshman Trent Weaver (Columbus, Ohio) posted his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with a career-high three blocks. Senior John Trew (Barberton, Ohio), freshman Chad Nelson (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Jordan Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio) each had 11 points.
Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) will play in his 100th game in a Panther uniform this Saturday. Jones is ranked third in the GLIAC in steals with 40 and fifth in the Panther record books with 153 career steals. He is fifth in the conference in assists with 78 and is seventh all-time in Panther history, dishing out 268 for his career. Jones is also ranked fifth in points per game, averaging 17.0. On Jan. 24, Jones became the 20th men's basketball player to score 1,000 points in their career. Jones currently stands at 1,172 points.
Trew, will be playing in his 99th game this Saturday. Trew ranks 10th in the GLIAC with 22 blocks and is second all-time in the Panther record books, swatting away 116 shots. He has scored 711 career points and has grabbed 378 rebounds during his time at ODU.
About the Dragons
Tiffin enters Saturday's game with a 10-17 overall record and a 7-14 mark in the GLIAC. Most recently, the Dragons suffered an 80-72 setback to Ashland. Joe Graessle leads Tiffin, averaging 24.7 points per game, which is second in the GLIAC and is grabbing 3.6 rebounds per contest.
Panthers – Dragons
Earlier this season, the Dragons defeated the Panthers in Tiffin by the score of 98-92. Sophomore Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) led a quintet of Panthers in double digits, scoring a career-high 24 points, pulling down eight rebounds, and adding four assists. Jones ended the game with 22 points while Trew totaled 12 points and eight rebounds, and Nelson added a season-high 13 points. Cowgill chipped in 10 points off the bench. Tiffin's Joe Graessle led all scorers with 36 markers.
