COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team, coming off two tough losses to GLIAC frontrunners Findlay and Hillsdale last week, will look to bounce back this week as they travel to Walsh on Thursday, Feb. 14, and Malone on Saturday, Feb. 16th.
The Cavaliers and Panthers will tip-off at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday against the Pioneers.
About the Panthers
On Thursday, freshman forward Trent Weaver (Columbus, Ohio) made his first start in a Panther uniform and posted his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. On Saturday, he followed up his successful game against Hillsdale by scoring a season-high 14 points and grabbing six boards.
Senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) leads the Panthers in points per game, averaging 16.7. In the GLIAC, he is ninth in points (16.7), third in assists (4.5) and fourth in steals (1.7).
About the Cavaliers
Walsh enters Thursday's game with a 14-6 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the GLIAC. Most recently, the Cavaliers defeated Lake Erie 72-50. Kenny Kornowsku paces the Cavaliers, averaging 18.8 points per game and pulling down 9.2 rebounds. Teammate Rian Burrell averages 14.2 points per game.
The Cavaliers currently rank first in field goals made per game (27.2), defensive rebounds per game (26.8) and total rebounds per game (36.8). They are second in points per game (73.9) and third in rebound margin per game (3.9).
Panthers – Cavaliers
Walsh has a 44-10 advantage in the series. The Panthers suffered a 78-64 setback on Jan. 17 in Alumni Hall.
Jones provided 15 points, six rebounds and six assists while sophomore center Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) added 13 points and six rebounds to lead ODU.
About the Pioneers
Malone enters Saturday's contest with an 11-10 record overall and an 8-9 mark in the GLIAC, while holding a 25-15 edge in the series with the Panthers. On Saturday, the Pioneers fell to Ashland 79-62.
The Pioneers are ranked first in blocks per game, averaging 4.4, and third in three-pointers made in a game (7.4).
On Jan. 19, the Panthers fell by a score of 79-75 to the Pioneers in Alumni Hall. Jones once again led the Panthers, scoring 16 points and dishing out eight assists. Senior forward John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds while Stauffer added 11 points and eight boards. Freshman guard Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) came off the bench and contributed 13 points.
