Panthers Welcome Oilers and Chargers for Round Two of GLIAC Action

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming off a tough loss at Tiffin, the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team will welcome Findlay this Thursday, Feb. 7 and Hillsdale on Saturday, Feb. 9 for round two of South Division action.

The Oilers and Panthers will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday against the Chargers.

About the Panthers

ODU suffered a 98-92 loss to the Dragons on Saturday in the Gilmour Student Center. The Panthers had their best shooting performance of the season, going 34-of-60 from the field (56.7 percent), including 12-of-25 from behind the three-point line (48%). ODU grabbed 33 rebounds and dished out 20 assists.

The Panthers currently rank second in the GLIAC in offensive rebounds, pulling down 12.0 per game and fourth overall in total rebounds with 34.6. ODU ranks fifth in blocks per game with 3.5, with senior forward John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) ranking sixth with 18 blocks in the conference, and 27 overall.

Panthers to Watch

On Saturday, sophomore center Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) had a career day, scoring 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists, while adding a steal and a block. He currently ranks second on the team in points per game, averaging 11.9. On the defensive end, Stauffer grabs 7.0 rebounds per game.

Senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) leads the Panthers in points per game, averaging 16.7. In the GLIAC, the senior is seventh in points (16.7), fourth in assists (4.6) and fifth in steals (1.6).

About the Oilers

Findlay enters Thursday's game with a 13-6 overall record and a 10-5 mark in the GLIAC. Most recently, the Oilers suffered a 56-51 setback at Hillsdale. Greg Kahlig paces the Oilers, averaging 15.1 points per game, while grabbing 4.8 rebounds. Teammate Brad Piehl averages 10.8 points per game.

The Oilers currently rank first in three-pointers made per game (7.5) and three-pointers attempted per game (22.1). They are second in free throw percentage (75.5 percent) and third in steals per game with 7.8.

Findlay has a 17-3 advantage in the series. The Panthers suffered a 97-58 setback on Jan. 10 in Croy Gymnasium.

Jones provided 12 points and six assists while Stauffer added 10 points and four rebounds to lead ODU.

About the Chargers

Hillsdale enters Saturday's contest with a 13-6 record overall and a 9-6 mark in the GLIAC and holds a 5-0 edge in the series. On Saturday, the Chargers defeated Findlay 56-51. Tim Dezelski leads all Chargers in scoring, averaging 15.9 per game. Teammates Nick Washburn and Brandon Pritzl average 13.6 and 10.6 points per game respectively.

The Chargers are ranked second in three-pointers made in a game, averaging 7.3 and third in three-point percentage (38.0 percent). The team is currently ranked second in defensive rebounds (25.5) and in rebound margin (+4.1).

Panthers – Chargers

On Jan. 12, the Panthers fell by a score of 86-59 to the Chargers in Hillsdale, Michigan. Jones once again led the Panthers, scoring 11 points while grabbing a career-high 10 steals. Freshman center Jordan Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio) came off the bench and added 12 points and three rebounds.
