COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team continues with their four game homestand by hosting a pair of conference foes this Thursday and Saturday in Alumni Hall. The Panthers will welcome South Division GLIAC opponents, Ashland and Lake Erie.
The Panthers and Eagles tip off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, while ODU squares off against Lake Erie at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
In the first part of the homestand last week, the Panthers suffered a pair of setbacks, falling 78-64 to Walsh and 79-75 against Malone. The setbacks make ODU's season slate 1-6 in Alumni Hall.
Last week saw senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) lead the Panthers in scoring with 15.5 points per game while adding 12 rebounds (6.0 rpg) and 14 assists (7.0 avg). Sophomore center Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while senior forward John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) contributed 11.5 points and 9.0 rebounds.
Jones is just one point shy of becoming the 20th men's basketball player to score 1,000 points.
Scouting the Eagles
Ashland comes into Thursday's contest with a 5-10 record overall and 3-9 in conference, but struggle on the road, posting a 0-7 record. Evan Yates paces the team with 16.1 points per game and 9.5 rebounds. Teammate Will Evans averages 9.6 points while Ronnie Steward is averaging 9.4.
Scouting the Storm
Lake Erie enters Saturday's contest with a 5-10 overall record and a 2-9 mark in the GLIAC. Riley Thomas leads the Storm, averaging 12.8 points per game while Rich Austin is averaging 12.3.
Ashland currently holds a 20-1 all-time edge against the Panthers. In their last meeting, the Eagles gave the Panthers a 69-58 loss in Alumni Hall. Jones had 16 points and six assists in the loss.
ODU is 5-7 all-time against Lake Erie. Last year, the Panthers fell 75-54 in the Osborne Center. Jones finished with five points, five assists and three steals.
