COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team, hoping to rebound from a grueling two state, five game road trip, returns to Alumni Hall for a pair of GLIAC South Division contests this Thursday, Jan. 17 versus Walsh and Saturday, Jan. 19 against Malone.
The Panthers opened divisional play with a 97-58 setback to GLIAC South Division leader Findlay last Thursday. Sophomore forward Brock Ammons (Findlay, Ohio) finished with a career-high 10 points and three rebounds to pace the Panthers while senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) finished with 12 and six assists. Sophomore Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) finished with 10 points while senior John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) led the Panthers on the defensive end with six rebounds.
ODU then traveled north to Hillsdale, Mich., where the Panthers fell to the Chargers 86-59. Jones had a double-double with 11 points and 10 steals, the second career double-double for him and his first ever with points and steals. The school record for steals in a game is 13 by Paul McLaughlin during the 1970-71 season. Freshman center Jordan Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio) came off the bench to score a season-best 12 points in 14 minutes of action.
Scouting the Cavaliers
In their first season as a member of the NCAA Division II and GLIAC, the Cavaliers come into Thursday's contest with a 9-4 record overall and 5-4 in the conference, but struggle on the road, posting a 1-3 record. Kenny Kornowski paces the team with 18.2 points per game and 9.1 rebounds. Teammate Rian Burrell averages 13.3 points while Jesse Hardin is averaging 11.1.
