FINDLAY, Ohio – A slow shooting start was too much for Ohio Dominican's basketball team to overcome as the Panthers fell 97-58 to host Findlay Thursday night in a GLIAC South Division matchup.
With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 3-11 (0-9 GLIAC) while the Oilers improved to 10-3 (7-2 GIAC).
Down 5-0 and 10-2, ODU played catch-up the entire night and despite getting close at 16-12 with 13:14 to go in the first half, the Panthers could not catch a hot-shooting Oiler squad.
ODU managed to stay within striking distance in what proved to be a low scoring first ten minutes, but the final ten wasn't as kind and the Panthers trailed by 19 at the break.
The damage started at 10:12, after freshman forward Trent Weaver's (Hilliard, Ohio) free throws cut the deficit to 21-15. The Oilers went on a 27-14 run, pushing the lead to 48-29 at the close of the half.
The Oilers controlled much of the second half, shooting 48.5 percent from the field, including 45.5 from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the courtesy stripe.
Sophomore forward Brock Ammons (Findlay, Ohio) finished with a career-high 10 points and three rebounds to pace the Panthers while senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) finished with 12 and six assists. Sophomore Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) finished with 10 points while senior John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) led the Panthers on the defensive end with six rebounds.
Ohio Dominican will return to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan 12 for a 1 p.m. tip off against Hillsdale in the Jesse Phillips arena.
