COLUMBUS, Ohio – Featuring four ties and 19 lead changes, the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team lost its sixth conference game of the season, with a 77-73 setback to visiting Northern Michigan Sunday evening in Alumni Hall.
ODU falls to 3-7 (0-6 GLIAC) on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 2-6 (1-4).
Senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) tied a career-high with 24 points and handed out six assists to lead the Panthers while freshman forward Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) recorded 13 points and four rebounds. Senior forward John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) added 11 points and pulled down five boards to pace Ohio Dominican, which shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) after shooting 10-of-25 (40 percent) from the floor in the first half.
The Panthers opened up the first half with an 11-0 run in the first six minutes. However, the Wildcats responded with a 14-2 run of their own, taking a 14-13 lead with 9:30 on the clock. ODU managed to cut it to one on several occasions in the first half, but could not take the lead as NMU went into the lockeroom with a 28-27 lead.
ODU opened the second half with a three point jumper from Jones and controlled much of the half until NMU tied the score, 50-50 at the 9:35 mark. The Panthers tried for one more push, cutting the lead to two, 75-73 on a three-pointer by Jones with five seconds on the clock. The late surge was not enough as the Wildcats hit two free throws in the last two seconds to hold onto the lead to make the final margin 77-73.
The Panthers have two weeks off for Christmas break and will resume action when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to battle Division I Milwaukee Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for noon.
