About the Panthers:
On Saturday, the Panther's picked up their second win of the season in their home opener, besting Ohio Valley 91-72. The win marked the first time the program has scored 90-plus points since joining the Division II ranks in 2010. ODU spread the wealth, as four starters scored in double digits.
The game was close early. Ohio Valley led 8-7, but senior point guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) drove to the line, to the lane, and to the basket, giving the Panther's their first lead, and they never looked back.
The Scots kept fighting, cutting the deficit to 29-22 with 10 minutes left in the first half. The Panther's responded by clamping down defensively, which gave their offense a spark and the result was an 18-3 run to end the half. The resurgent Panthers stormed into the locker room leading 47-25.
Hot shooting after the break allowed Ohio Dominican to continue to put pressure on the Scots. The offensive explosion stretched the lead to 31 early in the second half. Good clock management and rebounding kept the Scots at bay the rest of the way and the Panther's coasted with the 17-point win.
Senior John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) notched his first double-double of the season with 17 points and his career high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) led the team with 19 points, while freshman guard Mark Minch (West Chester, Ohio) continued his fast collegiate start, by tallying another double-digit game, adding 12 points and nine rebounds to the victory.
