COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After dropping a pair of contests last week, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team looks to get back on track with road tilts against Salem International (W. Va.) and Ashland this week.
The Panthers take on Salem International at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Ashland at 3 p.m. Saturday.
ODU's trip to West Virginia marks its second-to-last non-conference matchup of the season (at Notre Dame College, Feb. 22), while the Panthers' contest at Ashland will conclude a stretch of eight out of nine games on the road.
The Panthers suffered an 86-78 setback at Tiffin last Thursday and also fell 71-57 at home to Lake Erie on Saturday. ODU enjoyed one of its more superlative offensive weeks of the season, posting its season-high in scoring at Tiffin and having three players average more than 11.0 points per game. ODU, though, was outscored 46.5-36.5 in the second halves of those two games, with Tiffin and Lake Erie combining to shoot 61.4 percent after intermission.
Junior guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) led the Panthers with 17.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game while also chipping in with 4.5 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Darrien Douglas (Willard, Ohio) continued his torrid shooting streak as he hit 10-of-19 shots (52.6 percent), including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, to average 15.5 points per game. Senior center Zak Kapron (Malvern, Ohio) notched his third career double-double with 14 points and 11 boards at Tiffin and averaged 11.0 points and 8.0 rebounds last week.
Salem International enters the week with a 2-12 record. The Tigers average 79.1 points per game but yield 93.1 on 53.2 percent shooting. Ashland comes into the week with a 7-6 mark (2-4 GLIAC) and is coming off of wins over No. 17 Findlay and Urbana last week. Ronnie Steward was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week after averaging 23.0 points per game for the Eagles last week.
