Men's Basketball Returns to Conference Play Against Ohio Foes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After snapping its seven-game losing slide, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will look to score its first conference victory this week as the Panthers take on GLIAC South Division foes Tiffin and Lake Erie.

ODU squares off with Tiffin on the road at 8 p.m. Thursday before returning to Alumni Hall to host Lake Erie at 3 p.m. Saturday.

ODU scored a 74-67 victory at Mercy College (N.Y.) last Friday, setting season highs in points, offensive rebounds (19), total rebounds (47), three-point makes (10) and blocks (six). Junior guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals for ODU. He was the first Panther to have 20+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists since Brian Busch went for 26-20-7 at Wilberforce on Feb. 19, 2008.

The Panthers jumped to a 43-19 lead on Mercy, but had to rally late after falling behind 64-63 in the second half, closing the game on an 11-3 run. Senior guard Darrien Douglas (Willard, Ohio) scored in double figures for a third straight contest, finishing with 14 points, while senior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) had 10 points and matched a career-high with five blocks.

ODU had mixed results against Tiffin and Lake Erie last year, falling in both games to the Dragons but sweeping the Storm. Tiffin claimed an 89-87 win with a jumper in the waning seconds in Columbus, then held off a furious Panther second half rally in the season finale to win 77-72. The Panthers claimed a 72-64 win in Painesville over Lake Erie, then scored 46 second-half points in defeating the Storm 73-69 at home.
