COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Following a 12-day layoff, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team returns to the hardwood for a pair of GLIAC contests, welcoming Grand Valley State and Ferris State to Alumni Hall for the first time.
The Panthers enter GLIAC play with a 2-2 record on the season after splitting a pair of contests in the Red Roof Inn Roundball Classic. ODU defeated Lourdes 57-51 before falling 65-60 to Central State in the finale. Aaron Gibbs and Zak Kapron were selected to the all-tournament team. Gibbs scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win over Lourdes, while Kapron hit 8-of-11 shots for 16 points and six boards against CSU.
ODU has had five different players lead the team in scoring in the four games of the campaign thus far. Morgan Jones had 15 points against Southern Illinois, Don Kellum scored nine against Southern Indiana, Gibbs and Jake Mochoskay both tallied 14 against Lourdes, and Kapron had 16 against Central State.
That balance is represented in the season scoring totals as well, with four players averaging between 7.3 and 10.0 points per game. The bench has provided a spark with 20.8 points per game from the second unit, including 6.5 points from Kellum on 75 percent shooting and 5.5 points from Darrien Douglas on 72.7 percent shooting.
The Panthers have been plagued in the turnover battle, though, committing 21.3 per game, and ODU is hitting 62.5 percent from the free throw line.
GVSU enters the weekend with a 2-1 mark, with its lone setback being a 70-67 loss to No. 1 Bellarmine. James Thomas leads the team with 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Ferris State, meanwhile, enters with a 2-3 mark and is paced by Kenny Brown's 15.0 points per contest.
