COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After snapping a four-game losing skid with a 71-68 victory over Ashland Thursday, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will look to close the 2010-11 season with back-to-back wins as the Panthers hit the road to take on Tiffin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Panthers picked up their first all-time victory over Ashland, as the Eagles had won the first 18 matchups between the schools. ODU bolted to a 54-38 lead in the second half, only to see it melt away as Ashland tied the game at 65 with 2:21 to go. Morgan Jones and Zak Kapron made back-to-back buckets to make it 69-65, but the Eagles answered with a field goal of their own and had a chance to tie it with 13 seconds left but could only split a pair of free throws. Mochoskay sank two free throws to make it 71-68, and the Eagles missed their chance to tie as a three-pointer with two seconds left missed.
Jones scored 13 of his team-high 16 points in the second half, Mochoskay finished with 14, and Aaron Gibbs scored all 13 of his points in the first half. John Trew and Zak Kapron also scored 10 apiece for the Panthers.
Tiffin suffered a 68-67 setback at Lake Erie Thursday, unable to rally from a 17-point deficit. Brian Scott matched his career-high with 27 points but couldn't hit the game-winner at the buzzer as the Dragons, who shot just 35.3 percent from the field, fell to 2-9 on the road.
