COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team is looking to build off of its Saturday win over Lake Erie as the Panthers go on the road to take on South Division foe and No. 20 ranked Hillsdale at 6 p.m. Thursday for the second time this season. The Chargers won the first matchup on Jan. 6, 72-68, in Alumni Hall.
ODU's win over Lake Erie last weekend snapped a five-game losing streak. The Panthers scored 46 second half points on 56.7 percent shooting and weathered a late comeback attempt by the Storm to complete the season sweep over Lake Erie. ODU was able to capitalize on a 38-26 scoring advantage in the paint, an advantage of 18-10 in bench scoring, 15 points off turnovers, 11 second chance points.
Morgan Jones led the Panthers' scoring charge with 16 points. John Trew was close behind with a season-high 15 points, as was Aaron Gibbs, who also tallied 15 points and nine rebounds for ODU. The Panthers had trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half before recovering and building an eight-point lead with less than three minutes to play. Jones sank four free throws in the final 24 seconds to hold off the Storm's comeback attempt.
Hillsdale enters the game with a record of 17-3 (11-3 GLIAC) and is currently on a two-game win streak. The Chargers are led by Brent Eaton, who is averaging 16.8 points per game, and Tyler Gerber, who leads the GLIAC in both assists per game and steals per game. The 78 points scored by the Chargers Saturday were their most in a victory since an 80-50 win over Ashland Dec. 19.
