COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After a hard-fought overtime setback at Ashland on Thursday, the Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team returns home to face Lake Erie at 1 p.m. Saturday in search of their second victory over the Storm this season.
ODU couldn't complete its comeback against the Eagles, as the Panthers rallied from a nine point second half deficit. Jake Mochoskay hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of regulation to force the extra period. But ODU, which shot 51.9 percent in regulation, only made 1-of-6 from the field in overtime, while AU went 3-for-5 from the field and 10-of-17 from the free throw line to pull away with the victory.
Aaron Gibbs matched his season-high with 18 points and also pulled down eight rebounds, while John Trew also matched a season-best with his 14 points. Mochoskay came off the bench to score 17 points and drill a career-best five three-pointers and Zack Joseph matched a season-high with 22 minutes and had seven points off the bench and a couple of key defensive plays.
The Panthers finished with a 48.3 percent field goal percentage, their highest mark since shooting 50 percent at Findlay on Dec. 18. But ODU was outscored 52-30 in the paint and allowed AU to grab 19 offensive rebounds, which resulted in 28 second chance points.
Lake Erie suffered a 61-54 defeat at the hands of No. 25 Hillsdale on Thursday after leading 27-26 at the half. Garrick Sims had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Storm, as neither team shot over 40 percent for the contest.
