COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team is looking to avenge its heartbreaking last-second loss against Wayne State as the Panthers host Lake Superior State Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
ODU shot 46.8 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from three-point land as the Panthers battled No. 25 Wayne State for a full 40 minutes Saturday afternoon. The game saw four lead changes and eight tied scores and had the Panthers leading by as many as nine points midway through the first half. With ODU leading by two with 13 seconds left in the game and poised for the upset, Warrior center Ike Udanoh loose for a tip-in off a missed three-point attempt to tie the game with three seconds on the clock. A Panther turnover gave the ball back to Wayne State with 1.4 seconds on the clock, leaving just enough time for Ian Larkin's successful three-point heave from near halfcourt to give the Warriors the 69-66 win.
Aaron Gibbs led ODU with 18 points, matching his season-high, as well as seven rebounds. John Trew contributed 14 points and seven blocks, season-high marks in both categories, and Jake Mochoskay also reached the double-digit club with 10 points of his own.
Lake Superior State enters the game with a record of 12-5 (6-4 GLIAC). The Lakers are led by junior guard Kyle Hunt, who is averaging 16.9 points per game. They've won four straight contests, including an 80-64 home victory over Ashland on Saturday.
