PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team broke open a tight contest with a 15-4 second half run to defeat Lake Erie 72-64 on Saturday, snapping its eight-game losing streak and recording its first victory as a member of the GLIAC.

The victory was ODU's first since defeating Mid-Continent 65-62 on Nov. 20 in Alumni Hall and was also the team's first road win of the season. The Panthers improved to 3-10 (1-7 GLIAC) with the win, while Lake Erie fell to 4-8 (0-5 GLIAC).

Trailing 51-47 with 7:31 left in regulation, junior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) was whistled for his fifth foul, sending ODU's leading scorer to the bench and the host Storm to the line for four free throw attempts after a subsequent technical foul against the Panthers. However, Lake Erie couldn't capitalize, missing all four attempts, and ODU took over from that point.

Junior guard Kip Kelley (Raleigh, N.C.) hit a jumper, junior center Zak Kapron (Malvern, Ohio) made a free throw and junior forward John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) buried a three to even the score at 53 with 5:54 to go. After the teams traded baskets, ODU scored the next seven points on a triple by junior forward Jake Mochoskay (Mansfield, Ohio) and layups by Kapron and sophomore guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio).

That burst put the Panthers on top 62-55 with two minutes to play, and though Lake Erie managed a bucket to make it 62-57, they would get no closer as ODU sank 10-of-12 free throws over the game's final 1:26 to close out the host Storm. The Panthers also hit eight of their last 11 shots from the field over the final nine and a half minutes of the game.

Overall, the game featured 13 ties and nine lead changes, with neither team leading by more than five points over the opening 38 minutes of the contest. The Panthers shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) and hit nine three-pointers while limiting Lake Erie to 35.4 percent shooting from the field (23-of-65). The Storm hit just 3-of-19 from three-point range and 15-of-29 from the free throw line.

Mochoskay had his third-straight game in double figures with 15 points off the bench, drilling 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, to lead ODU. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Trew had 13 points, five rebounds, five blocks and three assists, Kelley finished with 12 points and Jones tallied 10 points and five boards. Senior center Keith Jackson (Lima, Ohio) came off the bench to grab a career-high eight rebounds.

The Panthers will take a break from conference play as ODU will play at Urbana at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12.
