COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After several close calls at home in its past two outings, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will hit the road looking for its first GLIAC victory as the Panthers take on fellow GLIAC newcomer Lake Erie at 1 p.m. Saturday in head coach Artie Taylor's 100th game guiding ODU.
The Panthers had second half leads against both Northern Michigan and No. 6 Hillsdale, but could not close out either team in Alumni Hall. Against Hillsdale on Thursday, ODU grabbed a 10-point first half lead on the strength of 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and 13 first half points from Morgan Jones.
However, the Chargers trimmed the lead to 40-36 at the break, then started the second half on a 19-6 run to open a 55-46 lead, its biggest of the game. ODU surged back on top, scoring 14 of the next 16 points, and led 62-59 with 4:27 to play.
With the score tied at 65, though, Hillsdale scored the next five points, and the Panthers could draw no closer than three points down the stretch.
Aaron Gibbs had a game and season-high 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting and also pulled down eight rebounds. Jones finished with 14 and Jake Mochoskay had his second straight double-figure scoring outing off the bench as he tallied 11 points.
Lake Erie suffered an 82-78 overtime setback at Urbana on Thursday despite 40 points off the bench by Ethan Bradshaw, who hit 22-of-25 free throws. Bradshaw has led the team in scoring in nine of 11 games this season.
