Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team's bid for their first conference win was denied Saturday afternoon as Ferris State handed the Panthers their third straight road set-back, 86-60, at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Michigan.
The Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0 GLIAC) never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 10-3 lead over the game's first 6:14. Kip Kelley's (Raleigh, N.C.) first of four first-half 3-pointers at the 13:35 mark cut the deficit to three, but a quick 8-2 run in a two-minute stretch saw Ferris State stretch the lead out to ten, 18-8 with just over 10 minutes to play.
The Panthers could get not any closer the rest of the half as the Bulldogs, behind 16-of-32 shooting, gradually pulled away for a 41-30 halftime lead.
ODU got to within in six, 41-35, to start the second behind two baskets by Jake Mochoskay (Mansfield, OH), but that was the closest the Panthers would get as FSU went on a 13-4 run in just over a three-minute span to grab a 54-39 lead and control of the game.
After posting a 17-point advantage in bench points in the first, the Bulldogs' second-string helped prevent any ODU rally in the second, outscoring the Panthers bench 27-13.
Kenny Brown led four Bulldogs in double-figures with a game-high 18 points off the bench. Lou Williams added 16; Justin Keenan collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards and Brandyn Mungo finished with 11.
Kelley and Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, OH) each finished with 12 points for the Panthers, while Mochoskay added 10.
ODU (2-5, 0-2 GLIAC) will look to stop their skid at home next week when they host Michigan Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9 in Alumni Hall in the first game of a Panther basketball doubleheader. The women tip-off against the Huskies approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game.
