BIG RAPIDS, Mich. --
After falling on the road at nationally ranked Grand Valley in its last outing, the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team continues its challenging opening weekend of GLIAC play as the Panthers take on host Ferris State at 1 p.m. Saturday.

On Thursday, ODU suffered an 80-53 setback at the Lakers, who were projected to win the GLIAC North Division, and the Panthers close out their time on the road with the North Division's preseason No. 2 team in Ferris State.

Down 7-6 early in the first half against Grand Valley, ODU's offense slumped as the Panthers managed just four points over a 10 minute span. GVSU outscored the Panthers 28-4 in that stretch to take a 35-10 lead with 5:13 left. Morgan Jones, who led the team with 13 points, hit a three to end the run, but the Lakers still took a 45-20 lead into the half.

The Panthers committed 13 first half turnovers, which resulted in 19 Laker points, and Grand Valley also had a 11-0 edge in second chance points in the frame.

In addition to Jones, Aaron Gibbs scored in double figures with 11 points and Darrien Douglas came off the bench for a season-high 10 points.

Ferris State, which is receiving votes in the national poll, defeated Tiffin 93-63 in its GLIAC opener Thursday. Preseason National Player of the Year Justin Keenan had 24 points and nine rebounds and Darien Gay had 18 points.
