COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team remains on the road for its second-consecutive tough contest to begin the 2010-11 season as the Panthers take on Bowling Green of the Mid-American Conference at 8 p.m. Monday night.
Despite a strong second half effort, ODU dropped its season-opener 80-63 at GLVC foe Southern Indiana, a top-10 team from last season. Ohio Dominican fell behind 44-21 at intermission but did outscore USI 42-36 in the second frame.
The Panthers committed 19 turnovers, which led to 22 USI points, and also surrendered 23 offensive rebounds to the Screaming Eagles, which resulted in 25 points as ODU dropped its season opener for the third straight year.
Junior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) led ODU with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Junior Zak Kapron (Malvern, Ohio) came off the bench to score eight points and haul in eight rebounds, and freshman Zack Joseph (Olentangy, Ohio) also came off the bench to score nine points in just 18 minutes of action. Junior Jake Mochoskay (Mansfield, Ohio) had a solid Panther debut with eight points and a career-high seven boards, while junior John Trew (Barberton, Ohio) and sophomore Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) both scored eight points, with Jones' total marking a career-high.
Bowling Green fell 54-52 in its opener at Howard on Friday night. BG led 42-36 early in the second half but went more than eight minutes without a field goal. Junior forward Scott Thomas paced the Falcons with 20 points and nine rebounds, Danny McElroy added a career-high 10 boards and Cameron Black registered 10 points and seven rebounds.
