COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will look for its first victories of the 2010-11 campaign as the Panthers host the annual Red Roof Inn Roundball Classic this weekend.
ODU looks to defend its title after defeating Calumet (Ind.) College and Michigan-Dearborn last season, and the Panthers will welcome in Cincinnati Christian College, Lourdes College and Mid-Continent University to Alumni Hall. ODU faces off with Cincinnati Christian in the semifinal round at 8 p.m. Friday. The winners of the two semifinal contests will meet at 3 p.m. in the championship game, with the losers playing at 1 p.m. in the consolation game.
The Panthers put a scare in Bowling Green in their last outing before finally succumbing in the second half and falling 81-55. ODU led 28-25 late in the first half before BG used a 16-3 run to take a 41-31 lead into halftime.
Ohio Dominican scored the first five points of the second half to make it 41-36, but Bowling Green seized control of the game with a 29-2 run as the Panthers dropped to 0-9 against current Division I opponents.
John Trew scored 13 points with three blocked shots and Zak Kapron chipped in with 11 points and eight boards off the bench as the Panthers received 37 points from their bench. Morgan Jones had eight points and a career-best seven rebounds in the setback as ODU was plagued by 23 turnovers, which turned in to 30 BG points, and the Falcons scoring 36 points in the paint.
