COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team came up on the losing end of a buzzer beater on Saturday as they lost to future Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Lake Erie College, 68-66. After defeating Central State University on a last second shot earlier in the week, the Panthers came up on the opposite end of a buzzer beater as LEC's Antonio Kidd connected on a jumper with 0.7 second left to edge the Panthers in the non-conference battle.
The game was tight throughout, featuring nine lead changes and 10 ties, with neither team leading by more than seven points in the game. The first half was a back and forth battle as the future rivals traded punches early. ODU took advantage of some hot shooting as they connected on 14-of-25 (56%) in the first half and carried a 33-29 lead into the break.
It was the host Storm that came out hot in the second half as they matched the Panthers 56%, hitting 15-of-27 shots to out score the Panthers 39-33. For the second straight game, sophomore John Trew (Barberton, OH) came up with a big shot as he knotted the game at 66 with 13 second left. Lake Erie elected not to call a time out and it paid off as Kidd pushed the ball up the floor and knocked down a 12-footer for the win.
John Trew led the way for Ohio Dominican as he scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Zak Kapron (So./Melvern, OH; pictured) added 13 points and seven boards for the Panthers in the loss.
Lake Erie had three players score in double figures led by Ethan Bradshaw with 18 points. Darnell Campbell added 16 points and Eric Worthey had 10 for the Storm.
ODU will return to action on Tuesday, February 2nd as they host NAIA No. 2 ranked Walsh University in the second game of a basketball doubleheader in Alumni Hall. The ODU women will tip-off versus Central State University at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
