COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team didn't have enough fire power on Saturday evening as they dropped a non-conference showdown to NAIA No. 2 ranked Walsh University 80-54 in North Canton, Ohio. With the win the Cavaliers (19-1) extended their current win streak to nine games.
The Panthers (7-13) came out aggressive in the early going trading blows with the national power, but with 11:08 to play in the first half the Cavs used a 12-0 run to take the wind out of ODU's sails. Walsh would outscore the Panthers 30-14 in the final 11 minutes to lead 47-28 at the half.
ODU's scoring woes continued into the second, as the NAIA's top ranked defense held the Panthers scoreless the first 7:48 of the second half. Ohio Dominican didn't lose their fight as they held Walsh to just 33 second half points, but could not gain any ground as they shot just 28 percent from the field in the game.
Senior guard Adriene Rodriguez (Lorain, OH) led the way scoring 13 points for the Panthers in the loss. Darrien Doug las (Jr./Willard, OH; pictured) came off the bench to score a season-high 12 points in 18 minutes and Aaron Gibbs (So./Oberlin, OH) added 10 points and six rebounds.
Five players reached double figures for Walsh, led by Lamar Skeeter's game-high 17 points. Ricky Jackson added 15 points and L.J. Sutton finished with 13 for the Cavs.
Ohio Dominican will look to end a three game slide on Wednesday, January 27th as they welcome NCAA Division II Central State University to Alumni Hall for a basketball doubleheader. The women's basketball team will open up the night versus Urbana University at 6 p.m., followed by the Panthers and Marauders at 8 p.m.
