COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team dropped their second straight game on Wednesday afternoon as they fell to Olivet College (MI), 89-77, at the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic, hosted by Wittenberg University. The Panthers first half struggles continued in the consolation game as they scored their second lowest point total in a half this season.
After a sluggish start to the first game of the afternoon by both team's it was Olivet that finally found their offensive rhythm as they went on a 13-0 run at the 10 minute mark to take a commanding lead over the Panthers. The Comets extended their lead to as many as 20 in the opening half and carried a 19 point advantage into the halftime break.
ODU wouldn't go away that easily as they chipped away in the second half thanks to an outstanding effort from the charity stripe. ODU connected on 24-of-26 from the line and cut the lead to five with 5:15 left in the game, but it was the Comets that wouldn't be denied as they held off a courageous comeback attempt by the Panthers.
Leading the way for Ohio Dominican was sophomore forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, OH; pictured) who finished with a team high 21 points and 23 rebounds. Terence Burse (Sr./Detroit, MI) came off the bench to add 13 points and Adriene Rodriguez (Sr./Lorain, OH) chipped in with 10 points in the loss.
Michael McClary led the way for the Comets with a game-high 32 points and eight boards. Andy Clark chipped in with 16 points off the bench for Olivet.
Ohio Dominican will return to action on Saturday, January 2nd as they host McKendree University (IL) in a non-conference showdown with the Bearcats. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
