INDIANAPOLIS – The Ohio Dominican football team was picked third in the Great Midwest Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour for the upcoming spring season.
In the seven-team poll, ODU received 26 points and one first place vote, which was good enough for third. The Panthers have now been picked in the top three of the preseason coaches poll in all four editions it has been a member for.
Defending champion, Tiffin, was selected as the preseason favorite for the shortened 2021 spring season. The Dragons claimed four first place votes and 34 total points. Findlay recorded 28 points for second place. After ODU at No. 3, the remainder of the poll included Hillsdale (24), Walsh (15), Lake Erie (10) and Kentucky Wesleyan (9).
Entering the spring, the Black & Gold have produced a 19-3 G-MAC record in three seasons of play, including a perfect 7-0 championship run in 2017. ODU was 6-1 in the G-MAC last season, good enough for second place. The Panthers have never finished below second place in the final G-MAC standings.
Overall, ODU is coming off a 7-3 campaign in 2019. The Panthers' only three losses came away from home, two to nationally ranked opponents, Valdosta State and Truman State, and the third to G-MAC champion Tiffin. The Panthers made history with their first-ever bowl appearance as well, competing in the inaugural America's Crossroads Bowl.
Since 2011, ODU has compiled a 74-25 record (.747), winning two conference championships and making two NCAA postseason appearances during the stretch.
Ohio Dominican is set to begin its six-game conference schedule at Lake Erie, with kick-off slated for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 11.
