COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's football team returns to Panther Stadium for its final home game of the season as ODU plays host to Kentucky Wesleyan at noon on Saturday.
ODU scored a 48-35 win over East Stroudsburg last Saturday, a game in which the Panthers held leads of 31-0 and 41-14. It was the Panthers' first win in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania in program history.
The Panthers improved to 7-2 with the regional victory and now sit at No. 9 in the Super Region One rankings, with the top-seven teams qualifying for the postseason.
The Panthers finished with 483 total yards against ESU, the fourth time this season that ODU has finished with more than 475 yards in a game. ODU ran for 201 yards, the third time they've eclipsed 200 yards on the ground this season, and averaged 6.3 yards per carry.
Junior EJ Colson (Middletown, Ohio) ran for 98 yards and three scores while sophomore Fred Pitts (Huber Heights, Ohio) had a career-high 76 yards. Colson also caught a TD pass, marking the second time in his career he's tallied four TDs in a game. It's only the ninth time in school history that a player has scored four or more times in a game.
Freshman Evan Ernst (Mason, Ohio) completed 27-of-38 passes for 282 yards and two scores. He has not thrown an interception in his last 108 passes and has completed at least 71 percent of his passes in all six starts. In the last seven games, Ernst is averaging 294.6 yards passing per game.
Junior David Turner (Fort Wayne, Ind.) has caught 11 passes in each of the last two games and has three games this fall with at least 11 grabs. He ranks seventh in the country with 7.7 receptions per game.
ODU's defense has two of the top tacklers in the conference in senior linebacker Ross Thompson (Delphos, Ohio) and junior linebacker Camren Moore (New Carlisle, Ohio). Thompson has 92 tackles and Moore has 87 through nine games. The last Panther to crack 100 tackles in a season was Justin Bell with 101 in 2013, and there's only been three occasions all-time of an ODU defender recording 100 tackles in a season.
Senior Brian Hunter (Mayfield, Ohio) was tabbed as the G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week, the first time in his career he's earned that award and the fourth time an ODU defender has picked it up this year.
With senior Nick Isaacs (Cincinnati, Ohio) blocking a field goal and freshman Jared Wilson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) blocking a punt, ODU has gotten a hand on six kicks this season, which ties a school record (2012, 2013.) Wilson's punt block was the first by the Panthers since 2015, and this was the fifth time in school history that the Panthers have blocked two or more kicks in the same game.
