COLUMBUS, Ohio – With wins in 11 of its last 12 games, Ohio Dominican's football team returns to the road Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest against Walsh at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
This will be the 13th meeting between the two teams in ODU's 15-year program history, and the Panthers have an 8-4 edge in the series, including wins in the last six games.
The Panthers enter the game on the heels of their fourth-highest scoring performance in program history with a 66-27 win over Alderson Broaddus last Saturday. ODU racked up 623 total yards and scored on six straight possessions from the end of the second quarter until its final drive of the game.
Making his second start, freshman Evan Ernst threw for 436 yards on 32-of-40 passing and seven touchdowns. In addition to setting a school single-game record for passing touchdowns, those are the most yards by a freshman in school history as well. He was the first quarterback since Grant Russell on Sept. 12, 2015 to complete more than 30 passes in a game as well.
Senior Cory Contini caught eight passes for 175 yards and a school and G-MAC record five touchdowns, and now holds ODU's all-time touchdown reception record with 32. It's the 13th 100-yard game in Contini's career and the eighth-most yards in a game in school history. His 75 yard touchdown reception in the third quarter is tied for the seventh-longest passing play in school history as well.
Junior David Turner caught 15 passes for 134 yards, the second-most receptions in a game in school history and the most by a Division II player this fall.
ODU's offense is now averaging 558.7 yards per game over the last three weeks and the Panthers are leading the country in completion percentage (71.1 percent.) The 306.4 yards per game through the air is 12th in the country as well.
Defensively, takeaways continue to be a big part of ODU's success, as the Panthers forced two more turnovers against AB. ODU's created 14 takeaways this year, the ninth-most in the country, and ODU's 10 interceptions are the fifth-most in the country.
Junior Camren Moore led the team with a career-high 11 tackles while Nick Isaacs made 10 tackles (2.0 TFL) with a sack. Ross Thompson had nine tackles and a 73-yard interception return, the fourth-longest in ODU history. He ranks second in the G-MAC with 54 tackles, while Jayden Davis has 45 tackles, which is fifth in the league.
Tawain Gordon became just the second player in program history to block two kicks in the same game.
