Ernst Honored At National Football Foundation Banquet

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican senior quarterback Austin Ernst (Cincinnati, Ohio) was recognized as one of the top scholar-athletes at the Columbus Chapter of the National Football Foundation on Monday night.

Ernst was one of a handful of football student-athletes from Central Ohio universities to be honored last night. A team captain and four-year letterwinner, Ernst appeared in 30 games for the Panthers. He completed 41-of-60 passes for 416 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2017, he went 4-of-5 for 50 yards and a score at Penn and also completed 7-of-8 throws for 80 yards and a TD against Lake Erie.

Off the field, Ernst has been involved in numerous activities. A nominee for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, Ernst is a member of Athletes in Action and has also volunteered with a Veterans Association Hospital as well as with Sua Sponte, an ODU student veterans association. He also has worked with the 2nd & 7 Foundation, an organization that reads to at-risk youth in underprivileged schools. Around campus, he has been a participant in Panther Pride Pitch-In and with Make A Difference Day.

In the classroom, Ernst graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a 3.3 GPA and has been working to a masters degree in Sport Management. He earned three GLIAC All-Academic Team awards as well as three ODU Academic Excellence awards.

After completing his masters, Ernst will seek a commission as an officer and pilot in the United States Air Force.
