35 Second Quarter Points Carries Football To 53-13 Win At Alderson Broaddus

PHILLIPPI, W. Va. – Ohio Dominican's football team scored three touchdowns in the final 3:20 of the first half to pull away from defending G-MAC champion Alderson Broaddus with a 53-13 win Saturday afternoon.

ODU had a 570-259 edge in total yardage, rolling up 444 yards in the first half alone, as the Panthers won their fourth straight game and remained unbeaten in the conference (4-3, 4-0).

Sophomore EJ Colson (Middletown, Ohio) ran for 153 yards and four touchdowns on just 17 carries. The Panthers had a pair of receivers crack the century mark as sophomore David Turner (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had 150 yards and a touchdown on eight catches and junior Cory Contini (Dover, Ohio) had 110 yards on four grabs with a touchdown.

Senior quarterback Grant Russell (Newark, Ohio) went 21-of-31 for 336 yards and two scores as well.

The defense held AB (2-6, 1-3 G-MAC) to just 12 first downs and 70 rushing yards, just 2.0 yards per carry. The Panthers also racked up five sacks in the ball game.

Senior Cameron Kohl (Hilliard, Ohio) had a tremendous game, making 12 tackles (six solo) with a pair of sacks and also broke a pass. Junior Tawain Gordon (Columbus, Ohio) had his first two career interceptions and senior Tre McIntyre (North Lewisburg, Ohio) also picked off a pass. Freshman Jack Saylor (Rochester, Mich.) had his first two sacks as a Panther as well.

The teams swapped two punts each to start the game before the Panther offense clicked into gear. Colson had a 20 yard run down the ODU sideline to the five, and two plays scored from one yard out. Senior Austin Ernst (Cincinnati, Ohio) then hooked up with senior Zack Williams (Hilliard, Ohio) on a two-point conversion pass to make it 8-0 late in the first.

After a sack by Kohl forced a three-and-out, ODU needed just three plays to extend the lead. Russell and Contini connected on a 60 yard pass play to make it 15-0 less than a minute into the second quarter.

An interception led to AB's lone touchdown of the first half, but the Panthers took control from there. A 23 yard pass play to Contini set up Colson's second touchdown run, this one from two yards. After an AB punt, ODU needed just two plays to strike again, as Turner caught a short pass and shook several would-be tacklers as he raced 75 yards for a score to make it 29-7.

Gordon then made a diving interception on the next play from scrimmage, and Colson broke free on ODU's first play after the pick for a 35 yard touchdown scamper. After another Gordon pick, Russell hooked up with freshman Devanaire Conliffe (Willoughby, Ohio) on a 31 yard pass play to the AB one, and freshman Fred Pitts (Huber Heights, Ohio) scored on the next play to make it 43-7 with 19 seconds left in the half.

The Panthers rattled off 341 yards of offense in the quarter alone, holding AB to minus-one yards rushing.

ODU then scored on each of its first two possessions in the third quarter, a three yard touchdown run by Colson and a 35 yard field goal by freshman Cooper Johnson (Urbana, Ohio), to put the game away.

Ohio Dominican hits the road for an 8 p.m. contest at Walsh next Saturday.
