Russell Nabs First Career Player Of Week Award

BAY CITY, Mich. – Junior quarterback Grant Russell (Newark, Ohio) was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance Saturday at Northern Michigan.

Russell completed his first 20 passes of the game and finished 31-of-35 for a career high 384 yards and four touchdowns. His 88.5 completion percentage for the contest is the second-best of any Division II quarterback this fall and the second-best total in ODU history.

Russell also ran for 44 yards in helping the Panthers secure a 38-28 win over the Wildcats. ODU generated a season-high 539 yards of total offense in the contest.

On the season, Russell has completed 165-of-243 throws (67.9 percent) for 1,917 yards (239.6 per game) with 15 touchdown passes. He also has 295 yards rushing (36.9 per game) and three touchdowns. He ranks ninth in the country in completion percentage and 35th in completions per game (20.6). Russell also ranks 35th in passing efficiency in the nation (147.1).

For his career, Russell has thrown for 4,734 yards and completed 65.5 percent of his passes. He has thrown 35 touchdowns and completed 4-3-of-615 passes in 27 games (19 starts).

Ohio Dominican improved to 5-3 (5-3 GLIAC) with its win at Northern Michigan last Saturday and will travel to take on Walsh at noon Saturday, Oct. 29.
