COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Ohio Dominican offensive lineman Ben Copher (Dayton, Ohio) recently inked a deal to play in Australia's National Gridiron League as a member of the North Coast Heat.
The Heat will play a seven game schedule this year, beginning Oct. 9.
Copher picked up First Team All-GLIAC honors last fall and was also named to the Don Hansen All-Region list. Copher helped clear the way for Darryl Johnson to tie ODU's single season rushing touchdown mark. Overall, ODU ranked fourth in rushing touchdowns in the GLIAC last year and fifth in scoring.
Copher, who started 32 games in his career on the ODU offensive line, was named a Second Team All-GLIAC honoree in 2014 and was a key member of the teams that made playoff appearances in 2013 and 2014. He was a part of an offensive line that allowed just 18 sacks over a 35 game stretch and helping the offense consistently rank amongst the league's best in rushing yards and scoring while also helping quarterback Mark Miller become a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy.
