COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team swept Cedarville in Great Midwest Athletic Conferenc action with final scores of 7-5 and 14-11 Wednesday evening in Panther Valley.
Senior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) led the way for the Panther offense posting six hits on the day including a perfect 4-for-4 in game one and six RBI's in the sweep.
After the first two scoreless innings in game one, the Panthers broke through for a pair in the third inning as Kaucher singled up the middle to score Manny Vorhees (Wapakonata, Ohio) and Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio).
Cedarville would snatch the lead in the fourth inning with four runs but the Panthers would come back with a pair of their own in the bottom half. Vorhees grounded out to third to score Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio) and Kaucher doubled off the wall in right to bring Bland around tying the game at 4-4.
The Jackets would again regain the lead at 5-4 on a double in the sixth but ODU would again answer in the bottom half of the sixth. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch scored Staab from third before Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) singled down the left field line to score Vorhees and Kaucher giving ODU the lead at 7-5.
Panther pitching would allow one hit the rest of the way as Tyler Dalzell (Amherst, Ohio) earned the win in 3.2 innings of relief giving up one run with four strikeouts and Zeller came in for the final two innings to earn the save.
Game two saw a slugfest as every Panther in the lineup had a hit and five Panthers had multiple hits. Zeller had a pair of hits with four RBI's while Kaucher also had two hits with three RBI's.
ODU would just on the board in the second as Chris Sackett (Loveland, Ohio) singled to left to score Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio). Cedarville would hit a grand slam in the fourth putting them up 4-1 before ODU would score twice in the third making the score 4-3.
ODU would then regain the lead as they scored six runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Sackett would tie the game up at 4-4 with a leadoff homerun to left field before Kaucher would double in the gap in right center to score Bland and Staab. Zeller, the next batter, doubled to left field to bring around Kaucher and would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch. Freshman Michael Lang (Cincinnati, Ohio) would finish the scoring with his RBI single to left that scored Hillard putting ODU up for good.
Cedarville would score three in the fifth to come with two at 9-7 before Zeller's three run home run in the bottom half of the fifth put the Panthers back up five at 12-7.
Once again, the Jackets fought back with four runs in the sixth cutting their deficit to 12-11 before the Panthers took advantage of a Jacket error in the bottom half of the sixth. Bland hit a sacrifice fly that scored Lang and Vorhees singled up the middle to bring Sackett around.
Danny Matic (Highland Heights, Ohio) earned the win on the mound throwing 2.1 giving up four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and Vorhees worked the seventh to earn the save.
ODU (14-9, 8-2) has a quick turnaround as they head to Davis & Elkins on Friday, March 29 for a weekend series with the Senators with first pitch coming at 12 p.m.
