Childers Repeats As D2CCA Midwest Region Player Of The Year; Kaucher, Wilson Also Recognized

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two all-region teams were announced and Ohio Dominican's baseball team picked up a number of accolades, including senior Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) being named the D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year for the second time.

Childers was also named First Team All-NCBWA, with junior catcher Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) joining him as a First Team All-D2CCA and First Team All-NCBWA honoree.

Meanwhile, junior reliever Brad Wilson (Alexandria, Ohio) was named a First Team All-D2CCA selection as well.

This is the fourth career Midwest Region Player of the Year nod for Childers, who was also named the G-MAC Player of the Year. He entered the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament with a .433 batting average, 19 doubles, five triples, 11 homers and 43 RBIs, drawing 39 walks and being hit by 10 pitches for a .563 OBP, the best in the nation. He is also tops in the country in runs scored per game as he crossed the plate 67 times in 44 games. Childers also entered the week fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in runs scored, and eighth in batting average.

Kaucher entered the tournament on a 23 game hitting streak and had reached base in 36 straight games himself. He's 10th in the country with a .429 batting average and 18th in OBP (.511), while his 1.44 RBIs per game are seventh. He has seven homers, 59 RBIs, 48 runs scored, 10 doubles and four triples to go with seven homers. Kaucher was also a First Team All-Great Midwest honoree this spring.

Wilson came into the tournament with a 3-3 record and eight saves while sporting a 1.99 ERA. In 31.2 innings, he has allowed just 16 hits, holding opponents to a .144 batting average against, and had struck out 52 hitters while walking just six. Wilson has yielded just three extra base hits on the season as well.

Ohio Dominican (32-16) squares off against Hillsdale at 11 a.m. CT (Noon ET) on Friday in day two of the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.
