INDIANAPOLIS – For the third straight week, Ohio Dominican's baseball team earned recognition from the conference office as junior Joe Filosa (Fort Wayne, Ind.) was tabbed as the G-MAC North Division Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Facing off against No. 10 Mercyhurst on Sunday, Filosa tossed 7.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and just one walk issued.
After missing most of last season due to injury, this was the longest outing for the right hander since he also worked 7.0 innings in an 11-5 win over Hillsdale on March 19, 2016.
In three outings this spring, Filosa has yet to earn a decision, but has allowed just 16 hits and four runs in 13.0 innings, good for a 2.77 ERA. He joins fellow pitchers in senior Matt Kittelberger (Massillon, Ohio) and junior Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) in earning the award this season.
Ohio Dominican has a 5-2 record through the first three weekends of play and will take on Wayne State in a three-game series this weekend at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, starting with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
