ASHLAND, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team closed the 2011 season with a 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 21-25) setback at Ashland in a GLIAC match Saturday.
With the loss, ODU finished its second season at the Division II level with a 12-17 mark, 5-14 in GLIAC play. Ashland improved to 13-12 (11-7 GLIAC).
The Panthers hit just .124 in the match, while the Eagles finished with a .295 attack percentage.
Senior Rachel Billing (Anna, Ohio) had seven of ODU's 30 kills, while sophomore Tara Winner (Versailles, Ohio) had six kills while hitting .294. Senior Stacy Rogg (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a match-high 19 digs and freshman Kelsey Snyder (Macomb, Mich.) had 15 assists to lead ODU.
Ashland gained early leads in all three sets, jumping in front 10-4 in the first frame, 6-1 in the second and 10-2 in the third. In the second set, ODU drew to within 15-14 on Billing's kill and a block by Winner and Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, Ohio), but Ashland scored the next four to pull away.
Billing closed her career with 1,599 career kills, which is fifth all-time in school history, and her 500 sets played are ninth-most. Her 3.20 kills per set ranks fifth, and she moved into third all-time with 1,816 digs.
Rogg, meanwhile, cemented her place as one of the best defenders in school history, as the libero tallied 1,944 digs in her four years, which is second all-time. Her 4.25 digs per game rank as the best in school history.
