TIFFIN, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team jumped to a 1-0 lead for a second straight match but again could not keep that momentum, falling 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 24-26, 12-25) to Tiffin in a GLIAC South Division matchup.
The setback, ODU's ninth straight, dropped the Panthers to 11-16 (4-13 GLIAC), while the Dragons improved to 6-20 (5-12).
ODU struggled offensively, hitting just .117 in the match, while TU finished with a .211 attack percentage. Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 10 kills, while Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) and Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, Ohio) both had nine terminations. Meredith Shifley (Galion, Ohio) had a team-best 24 assists, and Stacy Rogg (Cincinnati, Ohio) registered 17 digs.
The opening set contained 11 ties and four lead changes. ODU jumped in front 14-10 after Reder and Emily Post combined on a block. The lead grew to 18-13 on Rogg's ace, but the Dragons rallied to forge a tie at 20. Still tied at 22, a TU error and a Rindler kill put ODU on top 24-22, and Reder closed it with another kill.
In the second set, Tiffin led wire-to-wire after scoring the first three points. The Panthers stayed within two points at 17-15 on Reder's kill, but the Dragons pulled away, building a six-point edge late.
The Panthers fell behind 5-1 in the third frame, but stormed back to grab an 11-9 edge. On top 17-15, ODU went on a 7-4 surge to get to set point at 24-19. But the Dragons came back to score the final seven points and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The two teams were tied at four in the fourth set, but Tiffin scored the next nine points en route to taking the match.
Ohio Dominican returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday against Lake Erie.
