COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team challenged No. 1 Ashland early before the Eagles pulled away in the second half with a 90-52 win over ODU in Alumni Hall.
ODU (15-7, 10-5 GLIAC) trailed 17-14 at the end of the first quarter, and a triple by senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) kept the Panthers within 23-21 with 4:26 to play in the second quarter.
Ashland (23-0, 15-0 GLIAC) closed the quarter on a 12-2 run, though, then hit 12-of-14 shots from the field in the third quarter to go on top 65-39.
ODU shot 30.8 percent from the field, compared to 52.9 percent for the Eagles.
Rittinger led the Panthers with nine points while also pulling down six rebounds, handing out three assists and blocking two shots. Junior Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) scored eight points, and juniors Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) and Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) each tallied seven points. Eyre also pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals.
Ohio Dominican travels to Tiffin for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday.
