Women's Basketball Clamps Down On Lake Erie, 83-50

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team outscored Lake Erie 20-4 in the second quarter and pulled away with an 83-50 victory on Monday night in Alumni Hall.

The Panthers, who have now won eight of their last nine games, improved to 15-6 (10-4 GLIAC).

ODU, which improved to 7-1 at home, limited Lake Erie (7-13, 5-9 GLIAC) to 34.9 percent shooting and had a commanding 51-28 edge on the glass. The Panthers, who made seven of their first eight shots from the field, shot 57.1 percent in the first half and finished 47.5 percent overall. They also hit 9-of-20 from the three-point stripe (45.0 percent), the third most makes from behind the arc this season.

Senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) finished 8-of-9 from the floor for 17 points to go along with seven rebounds. Junior Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half, and senior Kayla Cook (Westerville, Ohio) came off the bench to score 12 points along with eight rebounds.

The Panthers led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter and took a 26-15 edge into the second period. ODU closed the period on a 15-0 run over the final 6:27 to take a 46-19 lead into the break, as sophomore Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) scored six points in that burst, with Cook adding a triple as well.

The Panthers held Lake Erie to just 2-of-17 shooting (11.8 percent) during the second quarter.

Junior Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) grabbed a career high 11 rebounds to go along with seven points, while senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) scored eight points and matched a season high with six assists. Also scoring seven points were senior Tori Beth Leader (West Portsmouth, Ohio), junior Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) and Overly.

This was the seventh time ODU has grabbed 50 or more rebounds in a game this season, and the Panthers are averaging 51.7 rebounds over the last three games.

Ohio Dominican remains at home to host No. 1 Ashland at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
