Madi Rittinger Interview
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) and junior Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) each recorded double-doubles as Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team defeated Tiffin 79-65 on Saturday in Alumni Hall.
Rittinger hit 11-of-15 shots and finished with a season-high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Eyre scored 12 points with a career-high 11 rebounds. Rittinger has recorded consecutive double-doubles and now has 13 in her career, while this was the first career double-double for Eyre.
ODU (11-6, 6-4 GLIAC) had a commanding 51-28 rebounding advantage, leading to an 18-3 edge in second chance points, and the Panthers also outscored Tiffin 34-18 in the paint.
After allowing Tiffin (4-11, 2-8 GLIAC) to shoot 66.7 percent in the first quarter, the Panthers held the Dragons to 16-of-51 (31.4 percent) for the rest of the contest.
ODU led by as much as 10 points in the opening frame (19-9) and took a 25-19 lead into the second period. ODU had an 18-6 edge in points in the paint, scored 13 points off of seven Tiffin turnovers, and also had an 11-0 cushion in second chance points as Rittinger (11) and Eyre (eight) combined for 19 points in the first quarter.
Senior Lindsey Blanford (Xenia, Ohio) hit a jump shot to give the Panthers a 35-22 lead with 5:51 to play in the half, but the Dragons narrowed the gap to 39-32 at the break.
With the lead trimmed to 41-35 early in the third, ODU responded with a 9-0 run to pull away. Blanford hit a three, sophomore Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) found Rittinger for a transition layup, and Rittinger scored twice more inside to put ODU in front 50-35 at the 5:41 mark of the quarter.
The Panthers would score 27 points in the third quarter alone on 10-of-13 shooting (76.9 percent), and Tiffin never drew closer than 11 the rest of the game.
Overly set career highs in assists (eight) and rebounds (six) off the bench while chipping in five points. Senior Tori Beth Leader (West Portsmouth, Ohio) matched a season-best with 13 points and Blanford added nine. Junior Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) had three blocks and Rittinger blocked two shots as well.
The Panthers shot 46.2 percent from the field and had 22 assists on their 30 made field goals, matching a season-high in assists. ODU improved to 5-1 in Alumni Hall this season as well.
Ohio Dominican hits the road for a 5:30 p.m. matchup at Findlay on Thursday.
