Softball Takes On Ashland In Final GLIAC Regular Season Contests

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In its final GLIAC contests of the 2017 regular season, Ohio Dominican's softball team will take on Ashland in a doubleheader on Friday, April 28 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Brookside Park in Ashland, Ohio.

About Ohio Dominican

The Panthers (26-20, 13-7 GLIAC) have won nine out of their last 11 games and are 8-2 since Sunday, April 9. With a 4-1 victory over Hillsdale this past Sunday, ODU clinched a berth in the GLIAC tournament for the first time since 2014 when it finished as tournament runner-up in a season that saw the team claim the GLIAC regular season championship. Ohio Dominican is currently fourth in the GLIAC but is tied for the most wins in the conference at 13 and boasts two victories over Grand Valley State and one win over No. 25 Wayne State.

Leading the way for the Panthers is junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio), who ranks sixth in the GLIAC in batting average at .421 while also pacing the conference in stolen bases with 35 on the year. Kline's 35 stolen bases is good enough to rank 13th in NCAA Division II.

Senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) ranks third in the conference in RBIs with 36 while batting .382 on the season. Wallace leads the team in slugging percentage at .559 with four home runs on the year.

Leading the way for ODU in the circle is sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio), who has pitched 148.0 innings on the season and boasts an ERA of 2.60. Lamping has tallied 83 strikeouts and has 11 wins in 2017.

Junior pitcher Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) ranks second on the squad in innings pitched (64.2) with 28 strikeouts, while freshman Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) ranks second on the team in ERA (3.24) while also batting .306.

About Ashland

The Eagles (27-20, 12-8 GLIAC) are 7-2 in their last nine games and earned a 5-4 victory over No. 25 Wayne State in their last contest.

AU ranks fifth in the GLIAC in batting average (.301) and ERA (2.80), second in hits (391) and stolen bases (66). The squad is led by senior Ally Farrah, who ranks fifth in the GLIAC in batting average at .434 and is second to Kline in the GLIAC in stolen bases with 29.

Looking Ahead

Following its games at Ashland, ODU will prepare for the 2017 GLIAC Tournament, which will be played at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio beginning on Friday, May 5. The tournament is double elimination and the Panthers will play two games on Friday, May 5, with possible game times set for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. or 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
