Seniors Recognized; Panthers Earn Great Team Win

Senior Day proved successful as the ODU men's tennis program sealed a 5-4 win over visiting Michigan Tech on Friday afternoon. An inspired Panther program used a total team effort to come away with the GLIAC win.

Doubles play went to Michigan Tech as they took 2-of-3 doubles courts. On court two, Tito Bonadonna (Jr./Caracas, Venezuela) and Jeremy Mokry (So./Hilliard, OH) used a strong start, finishing off their opponents, 8-1. Patrick Ohanian (Fr./Hudson, OH) and Gerardo Perez (Fr./Mexico City, Mexico) turned in a solid performance before falling 9-7 in a very tight match.

Singles went to ODU as senior Carlos Perez (Sr./Miami, FL) won a convincing match at #4 singles 6-3, 6-0 to set to tone. Gerardo Perez and Mokry earned wins at #5 and #6 singles to bring the match to 4-3 with two matches still on court. Bonadonna sealed the victory for the Black and Gold with a hard fought 7-6 (4), 6-2 win on court two. Tyler Johnston (So./Wilmington, OH) played well on court one, dropping a tough 3-set match at court one, 7-6 (1), 3-6, 0-6.

The Panthers will return to action tomorrow as they welcome Lake Superior State to Panther Courts for the final GLIAC match of the season. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
