Panthers Playing Solid Doubles in Day One of Charleston Invite
CHARLESTON, W.VA. -- The Ohio Dominican men's tennis team opened their 2012 spring season on Friday in Charleston, West Virginia, competing in the Charleston Invitational. Playing in nine separate flights, the Panthers found doubles success, sweeping 3-of-3 first round wins.
In singles play, ODU earned two first round wins. Tito Bonadonna (Jr./Caracas, Venezuela) turned in a solid effort in the three singles flight, winning 6-4, 6-2 over Bluefield State. Inthe five singles flight, Jeremy Mokry (So./Hilliard, OH) was dominant, dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win. Bonadonna and Mokry return to action on Saturday morning in the sem-final round starting at 9 a.m.
Doubles started in dramatic fashion for the Black and Gold, with the #1 flight on Claude Badowski (Sr./Oundle, England) and Tyler Johnston (So./Wilmington, OH) winning a tough 9-8 (4) opening round match. On court two, Mokry and Gerardo Perez (Fr./Mexico City, Mexico) teamed to win a tough 8-5 match. Finally, on court three, Bonadonna and Patrick Ohanian (Fr./Hudson, OH) rebounded from a 5-6 deficit, to win 8-6.
The doubles draw will resume tomorrow following the semi-final singles flights.
