Hot Shooting Lifts Men’s Basketball To 82-51 Win Over Trevecca

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team shot 57.1 percent from the field and a season-high 56 percent from three-point range en route to an 82-51 win over Trevecca in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest in Alumni Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The victory gives Ohio Dominican (6-3, 2-1 G-MAC) its sixth victory in its last seven contests by 15 points or more. ODU shot over 50 percent for the seventh time this season and eclipsed the 50 percent mark in three-point shooting for the second time in the 2017-18 season. The Panthers dished out 22 assists as a team, recording 20 assists or more for the fifth time in nine games.

Leading the way for the Panthers was sophomore guard Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio), who scored 21 points off the bench, shooting 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range. Senior guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) recorded 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, going 3-of-4 from three-point range. Junior forward Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) finished with five points, eight rebounds and tied a season-high five assists. Tying a career-high in assists was senior point guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio), who notched eight assists and eight points. Waugh has recorded eight assists on seven occasions in his Panther career.

ODU held a 39-32 lead at halftime after shooting 8-of-14 from three-point range and 15-of-29 from the field in the opening half. But the Panthers began the second half on a 21-5 run to take a commanding 23-point lead at the 11:39 mark of the second half. Leading 39-32 at the 18:52 mark, Williams connected on a three-pointer to give the Panthers a 10-point lead and spark the run. With a 56-37 lead with 12:34 to go, Casanova made a layup on an assist from Waugh, then Hoyng hit a jump shot at 12:03 to give Ohio Dominican a 60-37 lead.

In all, 13 Panthers entered the scoring column and ODU outscored Trevecca 43-19 in the second half, going on to win by a final score of 82-51.

Ohio Dominican will continue Great Midwest play next week when it hosts Findlay on Wednesday and travels to Hillsdale on Saturday.
