BAY CITY, Mich. -- Ohio Dominican junior first baseman Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) was named to the GLIAC Spring Commissioner's Award list for his accomplishments on and off the field. Childers was one of just 12 student-athletes (six males, six females) across the league to earn the award.
Childers maintains a 3.53 GPA as a Finance and Economics major and was recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-American selection while also being named to the GLIAC Academic Excellence list.
On the field, Childers was a consensus All-American and Midwest Region Player of the Year honoree. Also named the GLIAC Player of the Year and a First Team All-GLIAC selection, Childers led all of Division II with a .451 batting average and an .846 slugging percentage while also ranking fifth in the country with a .526 on-base percentage. He finished with 14 homers, 17 doubles, five triples, 60 RBIs, 62 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 48 games played.
For the season, Childers had 28 multi-hit games and 19 multi-RBI performances. He closed the season with a 14-game hitting streak and had two or more hits in 14 of those contests. In three seasons with the Panthers, Childers has a .363 batting average with 22 home runs, 122 RBIs, 32 doubles and 137 runs scored.
