Baseball Falls 4-3 Against Seton Hill

CLERMONT, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's baseball team couldn't protect a 3-1 lead late as the Panthers fell in the bottom of the ninth 4-3 to Seton Hill Thursday afternoon at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational.

Junior Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) hit a two-run homer in the first inning and sophomore Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) had an RBI single in the fourth to help give the Panthers the 3-1 lead.

The Griffins scored an unearned run in the seventh inning to draw within 3-2. Seton Hill then tied the game in the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs and scored the winning run on a hit batsman.

Sophomore Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) had a strong start on the mound, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing just six hits and one run. He struck out three and walked just one batter, throwing 52 of his 76 pitches for strikes.

Junior Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) went 2-for-4 and junior Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio) had a hit and drew two walks.

Childers now has 17 RBIs on the season, tied for second most in the conference in three fewer games played, and his .500 batting average also ranks second in the GLIAC.

Ohio Dominican (8-4) takes on Mansfield at 1 p.m. Friday.
